Show at 2:00PM
Renowned Puerto Rican singer Victoria Sanabria is a highly acclaimed interpreter of the jibaro folk music, carrying the essence of the Puerto Rican countryside lyrics and music. Victoria was the first female to win in the category of trovadores or troubadours, at a Bacardi Rum Corporation sponsored competition; achieving this at the early age of 19, and competing against much older and experienced singers. As a troubadour, Ms. Sanabria interprets the Décima Puertorriqueña, a folk/countryside type music consisting of four verses, ten lines of eight syllables each. The artist then creates a trova instantly upon demand as the audience request the themes. Ms. Sanabria will be accompanied on stage by local Orquesta Trabuko and by her travelling guitarist specializing in the ten strings cuatro, the national instrument of Puerto Rico, and a must have for the type of music in her repertoire. A timbalero, also travels from Puerto Rico to accompany the singer.
Opening act, Raíces de Arte Español, is a classical Spanish dance show highlighting rhythms, cante jondo, movements and instruments that portray our Spanish heritage. Enjoy the artistic prowess of six exceptional dancers, and a Spanish guitar virtuoso and vocalist, accompanied by equally spectacular playing of the cajón, a percussion instrument claiming its origin from Peru now used in most musical performances in Spain, as well as, in other Latin American countries.
